EMHC Presentation: “HIV and STI Testing Barriers and Preferences among Alberta GBTQ Men – a Representative Strategy via Community-Based Research”

More on the summit:

515 West Hastings Street
Vancouver, British Columbia

The arrival of biomedical primary prevention in the form of PEP and PrEP, post and pre-exposure pharmaceutical regimes, may have seemed a medical work-around to both behavioural and societal prevention strategies, but actual accessibility to the medications continues to be a formidable constraint on their effectiveness. The cost of prescriptions is just one of many barriers. Structural stigma surrounding gay sexualities seems to be hiding around every corner. Unquestioned policies and practices keeping PEP and PrEP out of reach, and the promise of lower HIV acquisition rates beyond our grasp. Our silver bullets are failing against the usual social drivers.

This year’s Summit will address the potential gains to be realized by fully optimizing the combination prevention package for gay and bisexual men across Canada and issues like structural stigma that may be holding us back. At Summit 2017, guests will tackle some of gay health’s most pressing questions, meet the movers and shakers of HIV prevention and network with others working tirelessly to optimize combination prevention.
